Essay

There are four types of archetypes, child hood, god teacher, creation, and four seasons.  Child hood is the end of child hood, creation is the creation of the earth or changes, and four seasons is the times of life; gold, silver, bronze, and Iron.  Those archetypes are ways to show events in stories.

In the book called, Bless Me, Ultima, the end of childhood archetype is describes a lot. As an example, Antonio has been making a lot of decision for himself, at age six he already knows what he wants to be when he grows up.  I didn’t even know what I want to be when I was 10 years old.  The end of child hood for Antonio start when Ultima arrives at his home and he slowly works his way up to become an adult.  He has learned from his grandma, Ultima and has also learned from his own mistakes he has made.  But he will never find his destiny until he becomes a man.  The god teacher in this book is Ultima.  She has taught Antonio almost everything she knows.  And Antonio used that knowledge as much as possible in his life.  She taught Antonio very odd stuff that a simple person wouldn’t think of.  As an example, “In the hills Ultima was happy.  There was nobility to her walk that lent a grace to the small figure.  I watched her carefully and imitated her walk, and when I did I found that I was no longer lost in the enormous landscape of hills and sky.  I was a very important of the teeming life of the llano and the river.”  Antonio would learn just by watching her do her thing.

In the movie, Cinema Paradiso Toto’s childhood ended when he made the decision to go back in and save his friend Alfredo.  He had made a life or death choice and he took the chance to save his friends life.  Another time is when he knew what he wanted to be at an early stage of his life.  He was around the age of 6 to 10.  Another time is when he started to make decision of his own.  Like should I go to the movies or go home?  He would always make a decision that would help him out in life or get in him in trouble.  Toto wanted to be one of those people who played the tapes at the Movie Theater.  And he become one after Alfredo got into his accident.  As Toto grew up he would always watch Alfredo do his stuff with the movies, and learned just by paying attention to Alfredo.

In another book called, Timothy of the Cay Philip, the main character, realized the end of childhood when he became blind and Timothy died.  He had great responsibility, like looking for food when he is blind, keeping track of how many days went by, and just staying alive.  That was a big part of his life and he had no control over what happened.  He was determined to stay alive and not giving up.   The god teacher in this story is Timothy.  Timothy taught Philip everything he knew about surviving on his own.  Timothy knew a lot and shared most of that information with Philip.  That is how Philip made it back alive.

I have another book called, Lord of the Flies.  The main character named Jack kind of has the same problem the last book did.  Jack is stuck on an island with 10 people and 5 of those people go crazy.  They start hurting and kill the other islands.  Jack’s childhood ended when he was shipped wrecked and got stuck on this island.  He had run away from his fellow islands because they became crazy, and was on the move for survival.  He needs to find food, shelter and things like that.  Jack was the god teacher in the story, he taught his fellow islanders to survive by themselves.  He gave them his gift to learn and survive in the wild.

The archetypes in the stories are a very big meaning.  They take a big part in the book.  Some books that have archetypes might mean nothing if they didn’t have any archetypes.
